Out of addiction and into education
Kieran was addicted to speed and alcohol for 13 years. Determined to kick his habits, he went into rehab. To keep himself busy and his mind off the drink and drugs Kieran got himself on some courses with Framework's Academy.
Starting with Flatpack, a course where learners renovate a council flat, he gained a variety of skills. He enjoyed it so much he went on to do several other courses at the Academy including Maths and English.
I left school at 15 with no qualifications, so I when I started learning again I was like a sponge; I just kept wanting to learn more.
I'm now currently doing a counselling course which I'm really enjoying. I'd like a career in counselling and support services: I've already got life experience, so I want to gain as much academic experience as I can. I'm going for as many opportunities as I can get.
I also volunteer at Framework as a Befriender, supporting people with alcohol and housing issues, helping them to re-establish independent lives within the community.
I did the Robin Hood Marathon for the first time last year, I've never done anything like it before, but I'm going to do it again this year. I think If you put your mind to it, you can do anything.
