Domestic abuse

It is a simple fact that domestic abuse ruins lives. Violence and abuse is used in relationships as a weapon to instill fear and obedience. It is a sad fact that so few are able to escape the abuse, but when they do, Framework is here to help them rebuild their lives.

Between April 2009 and April 2010, 85 people supported by Framework's accommodation services cited domestic violence as their reason for becoming homeless, an increase from 57 in the previous year.

Out of all the 6,967 people Framework supported in the same period, 11% of them had support needs related to domestic violence.

Framework has services that provide secure accommodation and specialist support around domestic abuse. Aidan House is one of these services, providing a safe home for homeless women who are pregnant or have children. Louise* moved into Aidan House after fleeing her home because her boyfriend beat her up while she was pregnant – read her full story here.

Portland House supports women with drug and alcohol problems, as well as all the other complex issues that they may be facing such as abuse.  Former resident, Caroline, turned to drink and drugs having suffered abuse as a young girl and an adult, thanks to Framework she now leads a happy independent life and has been reunited with her daughter – read her full story here.
