Making a Will is the only way you can make sure your wishes are carried out after you have gone. If you do not make a Will part of your estate could go to someone you did not intend. What's more, remembering a charity in your Will can mean that money goes to your favourite causes rather than to Revenue & Customs.
Estates worth more than £325,000 (the nil rate in April 2008) are taxed at 40% (the current rate at Jan 2008). Leaving a charitable legacy is one way you can significantly reduce the Inheritance Tax liability on your estate whilst also helping causes you really care about. Wills are not just about passing on assets either: instructions can also be given about funeral arrangements, and who you appoint as guardians to any children you and any partner may leave behind.
